When was the last time you sought advice?
Maybe it was when you bought or sold a home, or perhaps you might have needed some accounting or financial advice, or help in deciding on a school to send your children so you spoke to family, friends and possibly the school principals.
Or maybe it was in regards to a holiday or to get some electrical work or plumbing work done.
Let’s face it; we all need to get some advice at some stage of our lives.
Despite the Internet age allowing us to research just about anything we need and if it is available online we don’t even have to speak to anyone to purchase it, there are some things you should still obtain professional advice on before purchasing.
One of those things is the subject of your Will and Enduring Powers of Attorney and Guardianship.
Personalised
These are very ‘personal’ documents and in most cases a ‘one size fits all’ approach such as standard Will documents you can buy will not work for everyone, especially when there’s blended families and other permutations.
Thinking of this brings to mind a client who sought advice from our company. We’d like to introduce you to that someone who was glad she obtained some face-to-face advice after putting this off for so long …
“It’s important to talk about your Will. Do you have one? I didn’t until last year. Even with three kids and a hubby who works away and other financial obligations I hadn’t got around to doing anything about it and never wanted to think about it until I read about the importance of having a Will. It led me to meeting a lady working for Willcraft, a specialist in developing Wills for people. She came to my home and met with my hubby and me. She took our information; we talked about the uncomfortable ‘What if’ scenarios…’what happens to your kids when you die’, ‘what if you both die together ‘and yes there were tears. BUT imagine if I hadn’t done it…
If I hadn’t attended to this and the worst happened, the courts would decide where my kids went, the government would take a big chunk of my assets that could provide for them…
After we had worked out what we wanted, lawyers drafted our Wills and all I had to do was sign it!
It was so easy and I loved the fact that I got to talk to a woman who I felt comfortable opening up to and being in my own home where I feel comfortable.
I now urge everyone to make sure you don’t put your head in the sand about this.
There is a wonderful team who will come and help you sort this out!”
